Virginia Beach Breweries

#1 Reaver Beach Brewing Company

Reaver Beach Beer Review

Brewery Info: We seek to create assertive, flavorful beer with a focus on quality ingredients. We believe that what you get out of something is wholly influenced by what you put into it. This belief guides us, both in brewing and in business. Below are the beers we craft. Please note that the availability and selection of Limited beer is always evolving, with new creations being tapped regularly.

User Review: The place smells awesome; right when you walk in you can smell the grains and the hops. Their taproom is set up a lot like a bar. I went on a busy night and they had outdoor seating blocked off in the parking lot. The interior had good seating at both the bar and tables. There were a few items on display for purchase along the walls without taking up space. The staff were very nice and explained the beers they had on tap. It was an enjoyable experience. I would visit again. – teromous

#2 Commonwealth Brewing Company

Commonwealth Brewing Company Beer Review

Brewery Info: Located in the newly renovated former Chesapeake Beach Fire & Rescue station in Virginia Beach, we’re steps from the beach and our facility is complete with a truly amazing double garage bay tasting room, private event spaces, outdoor bier garden, and sour barrel house that will provide long term aging for over 200 barrels of tart, funky beer.

User Review: A restored firehouse with a lot of cool wooden tables/chairs, this is a very inviting place to have a beer or two . They have a good amount of beers on tap divided between Belgian style and traditional American. Commonwealth has a strong focus on IPAs as they had 4 on draft when we visited. Beers were solid across the board at a minimum, with the traditional saison and a tropical New England style IPA being favorites for me. Service was very friendly. Overall, a very nice addition to the VA beach craft beer scene. – seanchai

The brewery is always very clean and they have a large space full of tables. There is a corner full of different board games as well as darts and a giant connect four board on the back wall. Tim and Kevin are always very helpful and they are fun to chat with while you enjoy your beer. – Karl_los_64

#4 Wasserhund Brewing Company

Wasserhund Brewing Company Beer Reviews

Brewery Info: Wasserhund Brewing Company, meaning “water dog” in German, was born from a love of the beach, dogs, and German beer. We aspire to bring the German beer culture to Virginia Beach in the best way… by brewing the highest quality ales and lagers and providing the environment to enjoy them with family, friends, and strangers. We also match our beer with artisan pizza made to order in our brick oven. Or you can order beer sausages and add some sauerkraut for a real German experience.

User Review: Went in on Saturday afternoon and place was busy but not overly packed. Service was busy but friendly and attentive and willing to talk shop as much as time permitted them to not stand around. Local vibe with some classic rock playing (heard some Floyd and Beatles among others) with sports on the TV (that’s a plus to me). Food is alright and that’s not criticism with faint praise, but honestly I just found the pizza and cheese sticks “not bad”. Beers were good, nothing rock star great but nothing even remotely drain pour so you won’t have a bad beer drinking experience. – clayrock81

#5 Home Republic

Home Republic Beer Review

Brewery Info: Home Republic is a locally owned brewpub at the Oceanfront. After serving 20 years in the Marine Corps, Joe wanted to open a place with “great beer, wine, and food — that feels like home.” And, that’s what he did! With a scratch kitchen and on-site brewing, we are happy to have been a part of Virginia Beach since June 2014! Our mission is to make every customer feel at home by sharing our passion for good beer, wine, and food. In addition to serving our own beer, brewed on-site, we have local craft beer on draft and an extensive bottle list. Our food is upscale Americana that is made with a passion and commitment to quality dining.

User Review: Pretty cool vibe at this new beer bar in the newer apartments right off the beach (and free parking is a bonus). Food was pretty good and the tap selection is small (it’s 9, not 19, that’s a typo) but they keep it limited to local and their own brews (I went on a tap takeover and did not try their own brews). They have events here as well and TVs for sports fans. – clayrock81
