1. Edmund’s Oast

Edmund's Oast 2016

Edmund Egan was an English-born brewer who came to Charleston in the 1760s and started producing beer soon after. He had great success and donated large amounts of money to the American Revolution, earning him the name “The Rebel Brewer”. Oast is an old European term for a kiln used in the drying of hops. Together the two make the name Edmund’s Oast.

2. Thomas Creek Brewery

Thomas Creek Brewery 2016

If you’re looking for a beer to chug during drinking games, buy an inferior product. Thomas Creek brews are artfully handcrafted – with the finest malted barley, hops and yeast. To shotgun a tasty, flavorful beer such as ours would be akin to shooting skeet with vintage Johnny Cash records or playing Jimi Hendrix on a ukulele. It’s something a true beer lover would never do.

4. Holy City Brewing

Holy City Brewing 2016

Holy City Brewing has become a local favorite in a very short time. Their year rounds are true classics, a hoppy German pilsner and a porter that, somehow, is still refreshing in warm weather. Seasonals run the gamut from IPA, to stout, to Belgian Strong Pale Ale, to bacon porter. Yes, bacon porter. Don’t tell your cardiologist.

5. Conquest Brewing Company

Conquest Brewing Company 2016

Our beers pay homage to bygone times of war and peace, to tales both fantastic and dreadfully real. We believe that the onward march of history will show that in the end, honor is what makes a man, and taste is what makes a beer– not marketing, not hype. Taste. And we do not intend to be lost to the annals of history.
